Common health problems with achondroplasia

Recurrent ear infections, obesity, and apnea may occur. Apnea means short periods of slow and irregular breathing that may stop.

Children may suffer from abnormal curvature of the vertebral column, as follow:

  • Lordosis: the sway of the lower back
  • Kyphosis: abnormal front-to-back curvature of the spine

Bowed legs and back pain may also occur. Also, these infants may show delayed walking or motor skills due to decreased muscle power.
